Working towards ‘Escapades Series’ for a Brooklyn 2018 Show I was really hooked on a loose and nonrepresentational way to work. Maybe it was to do with the fact that I had just gone through a year from hell following the effects of Hurricane Maria on the island of my Birth, Dominica.

I guess it was a continuation of the proverbial 'escape'! That said, this painting had been started in 2016 with layers and layers of unresolved paint, so getting back in the Studio almost a year later and pulling it out it, I really, if nothing else just wanted to cover the past and start with something intuitive, give myself space to breathe. I had to agree to let my intuition get up to some mischief, a colour fest… a real spree. and then it started to remind me of Pollock and then Richter. And I really liked it! I liked that each area of the painting gives you a cause for pause… to take in the textures, the layers, the colours, the push and the pull.
